I spent three years, and went through three different ’93 MB-1’s, to restore this complete bike. If you’ve seen pictures of one of these bikes online before, there’s a good chance you’ve seen some of the very same bikes which eventually became a part of This Old Bridgestone. (Incidentally, I recently replaced the black cable housing with original, transparent Suntour housing.) Click on any of the pictures for a better look-see.
First up, a few pictures showing the iridescence of the Pearl Tusk paint job. It was difficult to capture the full effect with my phone’s camera but it still shimmers like the day it came off the production line.
Next are the wheels. The hardest item(s) to find during the restoration were a set of original gray Ground Control skinwall tires and Ritchey Vantage Comp wheels. If you see me riding this on the local trails, most likely these wheels will be sitting at home and This Old Bridgestone will be sporting a different set of vintage-appropriate wheels and tires.
I went through a few saddles to find an original one with the yellow paint; no rips, scratches, or glued-on patches.
Some more pictures of the wheels including a couple showing off the Ritchey crown bi-plane fork.
Look at all of that Ritchey…
More Ritchey and some Shimano Deore XT.
The plastic covering was still protecting this head badge before I got a hold of it.
